Moving Jenny from WA to OH

21-26 Oct, 2012

This is the route we ended up taking, with some small side trips. Just put a white, snowy blotch over southeastern Wyoming. And, if anyone invents a teleporter, it'll be someone who knows what it is to have traveled through Nebraska.
Attempt #1 at silly engagement photos. Also, not the last attempt.
Beginning the tetris
Whew. That's all I can say.
One house
We started driving after packing the house but only made it down to Portland. I left the back of the truck partially open all night. Oops. Fortunately, no one took anything. We moved the kids to the car on the second day. Quieter ride.
Starting Day 2 the right way
After the first night in Portland, OR, we finally feel like we've hit the open road.
Along the Columbia River Gorge.
Jenny taking her shift.
Hybrid poplar crop groves. Really wanted to stop and wander through the rows.
Eastern Oregon snowsquall.
These are our JC Penney catalog shots.

Heading up in altitude and into the snow
Coming down out of the snow
Sheep. I guess that's Eastern Oregon's thing.
Stayin with the Coppicks on night 2
The next door neighbor
Checking out the workplace
Joe's ride
Day 3. Not much going on in southern Idaho.
The kids are alright
Heading south toward Salt Lake.
Turned east near Ogden.
"I'm not eating crackers while you're not looking. No! Just don't ask me to speak."
Thurston Peak should be in there somewhere.
Okay, I'm eating crackers.
Wyoming. Why?
Got stuck in Laramie, WY after heavy snows set in and shut down I-80. Fortunately, we had reserved a room online while enroute.
Day 4. I-80 eastbound opened at Laramie, but the westbound lanes had shut down
The highest point on I-80, just east of Laramie, WY. Look for Lincoln's giant head. 8,640 ft in elevation.

The first Pony Express station. Gothenburg, NE
Silly shot #2. For silly shot #1, see previous photo.
The American Gothic house. Eldon, IA. I've been wanting to come here for a while.
Grant wood be proud.
Finally. 2,733 miles driven, 5 days, 282.5 gallons of gas. Not bad for towing a car with rabbits in it.
Only a couple hours the next morning, with Dad's help.
Celebratory coffee cake. Thanks, Mom.
The temporary setup
The kids made it, no worse for the wear.
